You can travel through time and around the world at Warrington Museum & Art Gallery, one of the oldest museums in the country. Established in 1847, much of the quintessential character of the building has been preserved and its original glass cabinets are crammed with all sorts of treasures.
The museum displays an eclectic and fascinating mix of fine art, ethnology, Egyptology, natural history and archaeology, as well as material relating to the industrial and social history of Warrington. There’s an exciting temporary exhibitions programme covering a diverse range of subjects both in the museum and down the road at The Pyramid Arts Centre.
• Come and see Warrington’s very own “dinosaur”, also known as the ‘hand beast’
• Explore the Cabinet of Curiosity gallery and see the Feejee Mermaid and the beautifully painted virginal dating from 1683
• Marvel at the Egyptian coffin of Paikhmennu from the Temple of Thebes.
• Enjoy masterpieces and favourites in the Large Art Gallery including work by local and internationally-famous artists such as Jan van Os.
